Ok, I am at the breaking point, and require a combat sight for my DPMS M4gery, and am torn between the  4x32 ACOG and Leupold CQT.

Any thoughts?

Try the optics forum.  There's tons of info there.

Did somebody move this thread, or am I hallucinating?

no, it really was in the AR forum, because, as everyone can see, I am getting no help in this forum.  Not trying to be an ass, but really, I am torn on this issue.  Does anyone have both - which do they prefer.  I am sure I will eventually have both - but until then, I want one now.

IIRC the CQT was a thumbs down.

The C/QT is large and its batteries don't last long.

The TA31 or TA11 ACOG is a much better choice for a magnified optic which can do "okay" for close stuff.

The Aimpoint M2 (or secondly an EOTech) is a much better choice for a 1x red dot.

Get the ACOG, its the go to optic in that class if you want a red dot go EOTECH or Aimpoint.

The CQT is big bulky and has many detractors.  If its free take it gladly if you are spending hard earned, take a pass.

Thanks

I have a compact 3X acog, and its my favorite optic. Everyone that shoots with it loves it. Even Ta11 and TA31 owners. Its just so tiny and easy to use.

I am using it on top of my ARMS SIR rail on a flattop. Compact acogs do work AWESOME on A2 iron sight assemblies, tho.

Man I miss my TA44R-2 it was such a good scope. I should never have sold it.

I have the leupold, and I'm pretty impressed with it.  Note that it has adjustable magnification, so if you're doing an entry maneuver, you can put it on 1x, adn if you want to shoot a hog at 200 yards (like I did this summer), you can crank it up to 3x.

I admit that it IS heavy.  But it also takes a AA battery that lasts forever (I was playing with it and put it in the gun safe in the "on" position (highest brightness) and left it there 3 days and it's still on the same battery.

Leupy has a lifetime warranty.  How bout the others?

72 hours is not forever.
The CQT has no vertical stadia for hold-over on distant targets.  The TA11/31 has references out to like 800 yards.
