OK, so I was fortunate enough to grab a couple Denny's Operator barrels in hopes of building a new upper. The only thing I don't like about them is the heavy profile, but I saw that Adco can contour barrels for only $65. A buddy of mine asked to buy my RRA upper or for me to build him an upper just like it. Since it is already NJ legal (pinned brake), I'm thinking about just selling it to him and letting Adco assemble a new custom upper for me. I guess the only thing holding me back is that the RRA was my first AR, has been 100% reliable, and very accurate for what it is. So what would you do? The additional cost to build the new one is minimal, so cost is not a concern. Either one will get a new LaRue SPR-E to go with my XTR-14. Shooting will be <300yds Keep: RRA Entry tactical upper shaved fsb Troy 10" free float 1/9 chrome-lined 16" lightweight profile pinned RRA military brake or Build: 16.1" Operator barrel (5.56 1/7 chrome-lined M4 extension) midlength gas Adco lightweight contour Adco assembly BCM A3M4 upper Lo-pro gas block (YHM or Vltor) DD Lite 10" rail (I like the continuous top rail look) Denny's F/A BCG A2 FH For those of you whole will give the typical Arfcom answer: I can't keep both, I just bought 2 other AR's! ![]() I'd say Denny's. Better barrel, better gas system, much better rail (in my opinion). I'm also not a big fan of RRA as a company; they didn't even stake the BCG or the castle nut on my entry tactical, and the barrel wasn't anything to write home about. Decent finish on the receivers, though. I think the light weight contour is a good idea, personally. |

i sold my first AR about two months after i got it so i could upgrade to a better barrel. uncle sugar didn't give us much of a choice on getting attached to one particular weapon or another so it's easy to just let 'em go if you get to upgrade. sell it and forget about it. |

sell the RRA, it'll give you the excuse to build another! Excuses are no problem, money becomes the problem if I build one more BRDThanks for the responses buy, I was leaning towards building the new one, just needed some reassurance that I was making the right decision. |

I've bought guns from friends who had a hard time giving them up. Ultimately they were satisfied that they were selling to someone they knew and it gave them piece of mind.
I can sympathize with him. I was thinking about selling one the first pistols I ever bought and it's hard to let go. |

I was at the same crossroads, if only in my head. If I was lucky enough to snatch a Bravo Co. 16"
upper I wondered what I would put it on, sell my first AR, RRA upper and have a 1/2 RRA, 1/2 BCM hybrid and hope it was as flawless, tight fitting and accurate as my purebred RRA. I didn't get my email notice quick enough to get the Bravo and I'm now kinda relieved. I won't get rid of half of my perfectly good, matched RRA upper not to mention my first AR and you shouldn't either. |
| Sounds like if money wasn't a factor you would keep it. So why don't you? Heck, sell one of the other ARs you bought that you don't have an attachment to to fund the other if need be. Sounds like you have a good reliable gun you trust, why part with it? The fact you started this thread to feel better about it just tells me you will end up regretting it in the future. |

I didn't mean "money isn't a factor," but the $100 difference isn't haha, $1k+ on top of the other 2 AR's is a big deal to me.
I just bought a Spike's 22 and built a BCM/LMT KISS carbine. This is my AR w/ all the goodies. I don't want two near identical rifles (16" w/ 10" rails). But you do make a good point with the reliability and that is where I am hesitant. |

But I heed the motto "if it ain't broke don't fix it". You have a nice, purpose built, reliable RRA. Sure the parts don't look as good on paper as the one you may build, but the one you have now works and is proven. The one you would build looks great on paper, but is unproven. |
