600 and 1000 yard range.   What spotting scope at a decent price with good resolution ?

I don't think your two criteria go together. In order to see your holes your going to need clear magnification and lots of zoom. I have a Nikon Fieldscope 25-75x82mm. They run about $1200, but are worth the money.

That's what I was afraid of.  Decent price and good resolution are pretty much mutually exclusive..

Good luck with that one.

I struggled with cheaper spotting scopes and wasted a lot of money in the process. A couple of years ago I purchased a Swarovski ATS 65 20x60 power and have never looked back. I simply consider it a lifelong investment.

Not the greatest pic but the Swarovski is there nonetheless.

Eastmans Hunting recently did a spotting scope review.  In the low end optics, Nikon Prostaff was their choice.  Costs around $400-$500.

How far away can you spot .223 holes in the white?  In the black?

Thanks
