Hey guys I know there's a lot of uppers and/or dedicated 22 ar's and other replicas sig commando,hk,gsg, etc But I was kinda leaning towards 2 IMO the better ones:
Tactical Solutions AR-22 SBX AR15 Upper or Spikes ST-22 upper Which ones better and if another one is better than these which one. Thanks |

You might also consider a Taccom. Tim is the local expert on 22 uppers and his customer service is excellent.

Tactical Solutions....had two of them. In some regards very well made, in others not so much. The glued together barrel assembly just doesn't seem right. I had one that they glued incorrectly and the barrel was actually loose in the receiver. Boy, did that thing shoot bad! Sent in back to them and two weeks later they returned the same upper to me, loose barrel and all! Sent it back again and finally after a month of trouble got one with better glue in it. Glue a barrel adapter to a barrel and expect it to last? I sold both of the uppers and never missed them. Their bolt is unique and they won't sell you one. You can get some service parts but mostly they tell you to send the whole thing in. I was having trouble with one due to the bolt. They wanted me to send them the entire rifle, upper and lower, for them to "test". I even offered to pay for a spare bolt so I wouldn't be without my rifle but they refused as selling you a spare bolt was against company policy. Really! no more Tac Sol for this shooter!
ST-22.....oh...don't get us started on that one! I had a Spikes .22 adapter (which was used to build the ST-22). The two happiest days I spent with it where...the day I got it, and then the day I got ride of it! Had more trouble with that POS. Made well but the design just didn't work with certain lowers or Fire Control Groups. Spikes finally gave up on it themselves. I have put thousands and thousands of rounds down the barrel of my CMMG's and never had a bit of drama. Case closed.... |
| So that's 4 CMMG's, ok I think the toc sol barrel only for my 10/22 and CMMG for my AR's or TACCOM but I know nothing about them, now some one mentioned different bolt units or adapters for cmmg abd is it better to get one of their complete uppers or just the bolt conversion unit I see sold individually? |

The bolt assembly with the chamber adapter works in a 223/5.56 barrel and uses a 22 rimfire magazine. These rimfire conversions work but the accuracy varies depending on barrel twist of the 5.56/223 barrel which are normally, 1-7, 1-8, 1-9, 1-10, 1-12 and 1-14. The 22 rimfire barrels are usually 1-16 twist 223 whereas 5.56/223 are .224 which accounts for the poor accuracy of the 22 rimfire conversions. The dedicated 22 rimfire upper use 22 rimfire spec barrels and will provide better accuracy.
Accuracy in 223/5.56 barrels vary from barrel to barrel and ammunition used with 22 rimfire. The 22 rimfire conversions work better for shooting steel plates and plinking where accuracy is not quite as important. The 22 rimfire is very dirty and I prefer using the dedicated 22 rimfire upper on a dedicated AR-15 lower. I used a 22 conversion for a while but found out I was shooting more 22 rimfire than 223/5.56 and I got tired of all the filth in my Centerfire rifle. Dedicated rimfire AR-15 is really the best route for me. |
| I was just thinking the same thing, to go dedicated 22 upper, for accuracy, also buffer/spring/forward assist etc all unnecessary for 22lr. I was just looking at the CMMG Keymod series and found the 16in m4 profile upper for $480. plus $25 overnight shipping. Not bad. |

I have a DMPS and JPNC .22 uppers and can't say enough good things about them
run them both in 2-Gun competitions and they run circles around all the competition DMPS 22 by usmcchet92_96, on Flickr

| Very nice rifles, especially the JP, I went with the Tac Sol SBX, love that SBR w/o "SBR" idea. So when I do get a suppressor I will be all set. I ended up finding a lot of reviews on other sites, buyer reviews and you tube vids, over 90% of what I read and say was functioned flawlessly, the few that had issues where traced to ammo and one that needed a different bolt, which Tac Sol gave him for free. Only wish the new models with the keymod forends were out, so I'll be swapping forends in the future. |

CMMG runs like a scalded dog. I sbr'd it, chopped the barrel to 8.5", and put a suppressor on it. And for some unknown reason it's the most accurate gun I own. The damn thing is a tack driver!
Highly recommended mods: 1. Boonie Packer S&W 15-22 mag adapter (allows the use of superior S&W 15-22 mags). Bolt holds open on last round, who doesn't love that? 2. McFadden Machine lightning grip mag loader. Actually makes loading mags fun. 3. Black Dog 50rd drum. They work flawlessly, at least for me. 4. Suppressor, not really necessary, but come on, who doesn't love suppressors, especially on a .22. 5. Geissele trigger. I never thought I'd ever pay that much for a trigger, but worth every penny. Kick myself for not getting one a long time ago. 6. Last but not least a fun switch. Expensive as hell (but one things for sure the price will never decrease and can only go up so look at it as an investment). To me anyway the ultimate fun gun is a .22 caliber fully automatic suppressed machine gun with a 50-round drum. It just doesn't get any better. Zero recoil, you can write your name with it, and even with todays ammo prices still cheap to shoot. |

| Well upper should be here tomorrow, I wanted to swap out the hogue forend for a keymod but was told the barrel nut is pinned in and the shroud is to big, I have to see when I get it , Tac sol told me for $80 thet have a tool/service to remove and replace forends so the barrel sleeve wont slip. |
|
Received the Tac Sol SBX upper, love it, aside from the Hogue forend. Ran the crap out of it today with Rem 36gr HP, CCI standard 40gr, Norma Tac 40gr, Amer Eagle 38gr, and CCI HiShock 's, Used a 15, 25 Blackdog mags, as well as a 50 Rounder, all mags and bullets ran excellent !! RRA 3.5LB trigger .Upper is very accurate with all loads, wicked light set up. Using a hawke ranging scope. with DNZ mount. All is good, now after I send to Tac Sol to remove Hogue forend and barrel nut and replace with a standard mil spec barrel nut, my Samson 10 Keymod will slip on and life is good, wanted to do it myself but Tac Sol advised they have to heat pin up that honds barrel in receiver and a tool they use so the sleeve wont come off the barrel. Now for a slide fire stock for more fun........... |
