This would go on a 16" barreled carbine.  I want the carbine to be as light as possible, so I've been eyeing the 1.5x and 2x compact ACOGs.  On the other hand, I like the looks of the TA33R8 with it's 3x magnification and the chevron reticle.  Even with the TA33R8 and Larue mount () I don't think it'd be any heavier than the EOTech I was using.

I also have another question.  Some of the 1.5x models use something called a "special short ring".  What the hell is that?

Purposes for this rifle are many, including recreational shooting and SD/HD and general SHTF / Katrina type situations.  Which ACOG would be a better choice?

Fixed FSB? No question, 3X is as low as you want to go with a scope.
