I am going to purchase an Aimpoint.  Should I get the CompM4 or CompM4s?  I understand they are the same, except the CompM4s has the lower mounted battery.  This will be used on an ar15.  Thanks for any help.

I would go with the M4s.  Larue has a nice optic/mount combo.

I have two of the M4s and love them.  You don't need any mounts, as the QRP2 mount is awesome by itself as long as you don't mind absolute co-witness.   I have flip up sights on my two Beowulfs and don't mind the co-witness.

If you owned a rifle with a side charging handle, the M4s is a no go.

Get the M4s. The battery compartment on the M4 has been noted to obstruct the field of view of some people, notably the army. They went with the M4s for that reason (others too maybe?). The M4s is also less prone to snag imo because of where the battery compartment is as well. Also, if you drop your weapon with the M4 the first contact point will be the battery housing. While the housing is strong, it is not as strong as the 30mm tube housing, which is where it will land first on the M4s model.

Hope this helps

One thing I've noticed...
With the M4s and 3x magnifier combo mounted on the weapon and a swivel mount is used on the 3x, when the magnifier is moved out of the line of sight, it obstructs the switch operation of the M4s.           If for some reason you may need to do that.

Just a thought.  HTH

I wanted the m4, cuz I thought it looked cooler

However I got the m4s,  take note of what has been mentioned already
They are plus's for this model,

Haveing the S model lowers the profile of the sight, so that is cool

I don't think it will matter what you end up getting, they are as mentioned the same
you'll be happy with eithier

I have the M4s/Larue combo.  Went with the M4s for the slightly lower profile.  The Larue combo is a good deal.

If the M4s is in stock, there's no good reason to get the M4.

All of the above comments indicate that.

The #1 reason to get the CompM4 is...............

People are so in love with the LOWER  BATTERY that you can get the M4 for about $100 - $150  LESS.

I have 2 of them and have less than $550 into EACH of them.

E.T.A. - the high battery is only obstructive to your field of view if you are a LEFTY.

I paid less then $500 for each of the M4s's I've owned (and one was bought brand new)

But there is one legitimate reason to get the standard M4 sight (if you are going to get a magnifier). You can mount the magnifier closer to the M4 then you can the M4s because of the battery placement. Otherwise the M4s is the way to go IMO. I love mine!

Are you sure about that?  I could have sworn the ARMY went with the M4.  The rheostat on M4s tends to get in the way when using NVG.

I have both and I must admit that I like the M4s better; the top mounted battery compartment looks - but I got the M4 because a PVS14 (or similar) had already been scribed in ink on my future budget

There are pros and cons to each model, IMO.  In regard to the 3X magnifier issue, take a look at this thread.  Very good info within

FWIW I determined the benefits of the M4s to outweigh the cons more than those of the M4....and Larue received my business
