Can anyone tell me about barrels or point me to a thread that talks about barrels? Im new to the site, building my first AR-15 trying to get as much info as I can get to buil a good reliable rifle. I bought the MEGA upper and lower receivers today from Carricoz. Any books that have instructions on installing the internals, and what the internals do. Thanks for any help. |

Check out the EE for the group buy on RRA, 16", chrome-lined, mid-length 1:7 barrel. Unless you are match shooting, I think that you'll find this to be a very good deal ($220)-- especially if it is your first build. No configuration will satisfy everyone but this seems to be a good fit for most. I went through the same thing you are going through and did a lot of research. I originally wanted an 18" mid-length 1:8 but then the 6.8 was announced which kind of killed a bunch of my requirements. Now I just want to finish out a good basic .223 for my son and I before someone takes a run and re-instating the AWB. THEN I'll get started building my REAL rifle in 6.8mm. Wolf |

Check out the link, it's Bushmaster barrels, find one that you like then lets us know, there are plenty of people here that will help you out. Bushmaster barrels are great, chrome lined, 4150 steel, most have a 1/9 twist, but if you call them you might be able to find a 1/7 twist in their 14.5" M4 barrel or the 20" Gov't profile barrel. Bushmaster barrels Also, welcome aboard. |

Well the first thing you need to do is determine what kind of AR you want (M4, carbine, SPR, Rifle, Varmint rig, etc) and what length, what twist rate, etc... As a blanket statement I would say that Bushmaster has the overall best deals going in the quality x specs/price equation but they may not make what you want\need for the gun you want to build. |

Thanks everyone for the info. I was looking on Model1sales.com, and I think im going to get one of their barrels. The one I was thinking about was a Chrome Moly Heavy 16" post ban with welded brake. They also offer a chrome lined chamber, and bore for another $35 which ill take advantage of. I just need to call them and see what type of Chrome Moly the barrel is made from 4150, or 4140. Any comments on Model1sales barrels? Im not sure who makes them. Thanks again for all the help! |

The group buy is looking better: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=121&t=207911&page=4 May come with barrel stamped: "AR15.COM 1/7 5.56 NATO" Wolf |
It's 4140 - the only way to get 4150 is get a Colt or Bushmaster.
You want this: get as much info as I can get to buil a good reliable rifle Then buy a Bushmaster or Colt barrel. |
