Im looking at the uppers from RRA. The 7 & 10.5 inch. I will eventually get a Free float and a can for the "SD look" Are there any advantages with one or the other? Is the 7 inch going to be too short with out the can on?

Does the RRA setup take the Colt style mags?

Any other setups I should consider?

Either length will work very well with or without a suppressor and will take colt mags with the drop in magwell.  Personally, I have a 5" TROS barrel (3-lug) with KAC FF rail and usually use a suppressor...due to the muzzle blast being inside the rail (fingers gets a little fiery HOT w/o can).  I've never had any problems FTE/FTF/ETC with short barrel length and strongly recommend getting the TROS 3-lug due to the ease of use when shooting with a suppressor.

Which free float/rails should I be looking at that have a larger inside diameter for a can?

Good question...I know for sure both KAC and Daniel Defense will work are wide enough to use my SWR suppressor.  FYI, I think the larue FF's are too small to fit most 9mm suppressors (maybe someone else would like to verify this).

KAC, DD & Yankee Hill have large enough inner diameters which will fit your silencer

What about Troy or Midwest?

ETA Im under the impression that the hammer pin in my Colt lower will be too big for the RRA hammer. Is this correct? Who else would make a hammer?
