I ordered this upper: http://www.palmettostatearmory.com/2235.php from PSA.
Carbine length gas system / 14.5" barrel. I am finishing up a lower for it and am wondering what buffer tube, spring, and buffer to get ..... what weight buffer etc. Any recommendations?? What have you used that works best? Thanks guys!! |
| I would go with the standard spring, a mil-spec tube and stock. And a Spikes ST-2 (H2) buffer. That seems to be a good combination. As long as everything functions well you will be OK. I even use a standard weight buffer in some of mine, and no problems. The heavier buffer just seems a little smoother. |

I'm currently using H buffers on my three carbines which I mostly run with surplus US and imported military ammo.
I've tried the standard and H2 buffers also and they also work OK, YMMV. If you're willing to experiment with all the weights without buying all four buffers, just buy a standard and a H3 buffers, then take one of the tungsten weight of the H3 and exchange it with a steel weight of the standard buffer to make a H buffer, use two tungsten weights to make a H2 buffer. I would highly recommend my BCM mil-spec buffer tube kit, the tube is slightly bigger in diameter which fits snug on all my mil-spec size stocks (Vltor IMOD, EMOD, Magpul CTR, MOE, Colt M4, and LMT M4 stocks). avoid the snake oil, go with an H or H2 buffer
I run H2 buffers in all of my guns, but i primarily shoot XM193. if you're going to be shooting a lot of the cheaper steel case ammo, you might want to go with an H buffer. watch your extraction, if you're throwing brass between 3 and 4 o'clock your good. 12-3, go with a heavier buffer. 4-6, go with a lighter buffer |

In my experience standard carbine and H1 buffers work great in carbhines.
In a SBR I will use the H1 or H2.. In fact ive been troubleshooting a new build and I was doing all sors of funny stuff with standard to endine buffers. Nothing worked. After replacing the ejector spring in the bolt it worked fine with a standard buffer, even when using that low velocity 75gr wolf. |
