I am looking at installing a new scope on my 20" AR15A2 Gov't model.  I have the ARMS #2 carry handle mount and ARMS #21 30mm STANAG rings.  The two Burris scopes that I am looking at are the 1-4x24 Euro Diamond and the 1.5-6x40 Euro Diamond, both with illuminated reticles.  This will be an all purpose rifle to be used for home defense, 3 gun matches, long range work and anything else that may come along.  Which of those two scopes would you chose?

If those are my only choices I'd pick the 1.5-6x40 for better light transmission
w/ 40mm lens.  Neither of those, in my opinion really suits an AR though.
The red dot or a compact seem to better fit the 'aesthetics' and 'usefulness'
of the AR platform.  I don't really like scopes on AR's, but that's just me.
Burris makes quality optics though, and I'd bet you'll be happy with either.

Both choices are good.  I have one and I'm pleased. Personally, I would lean towards 1.5-6x40.

As far as scopes being suited for ARs goes, that is pure opinion. Burris is a good choice. My 18" Upper is scoped out with a Burris. My AR has not rejected it yet.
Don't be swayed to burn you money on a more "suitable" pricier scope that has the word "tactical" in it. Hunter knobs are good enough for most of us users, unless you are going for looks.
