Working on doing a heavy barrel 308 upper build for a dpms lower and I was curious about the upper receiver options.

I like the look/design of the A3 style upper with the forward assist and dust cover.  However I've been told that the smooth side version is thicker/stronger than the A3 version and would be a better choice for a bull barrel build for max accuracy.

Just curious what others have found in this area.

Thanks in advance,

Todd

I have a LR 308 with the A3 upper. I believe A3 is heavier than the slick slide. I do not think there is much difference in strength. I have the SS 24inch heavy barrel. I got mine in AUG and have fed it about 100 factory loads and at least 1000 reloads. My 308 shoots better than I do and likes 168 A-Max I am going to try the next heavier A-Max next. I think either is a fine upper My rifle is very heavy so it does not do much of the bench right know.
