I have a CMMG Bargain Bin rifle with an 18" barrel, rifle length gas system.  If I add a 13.2" LaRue rail, what gas block do I need to get?  How hard are they to install?

Thanks!

The slotted low profile gas block from YHM ($31.50) is  a great one to use, easy to install and since it is slotted for easy install it will keep from putting pits and screw marks into your barrel. (if you have anything else you want to put on through YHM you can send your upper (no FFL needed) w/list of items to be added and your cell phone/telephone number and they put any items you purchase on your rifle for free) I sent my bushmaster in and had the Specter Length Diamond Forearm, YHM muzzlebrake, low-pro slotted gas block, black plated gas tube all for about $200 including shipping.

Hope this helps

you have lots of options, it really depends on if you've had a A2 Front Sight Post or not.
if you did, i'd either go w/ the LaRue or the Daniel Defense, b/c those cover up the holes left behind from the taper pins.
if you don't, you can get either the YHM (cheapest option) or the Vltor.  the Troy is the same thing.

it's up to you. i'd go w/ the LaRue (PK firearms sells one that's similar and cheaper) b/c it'll look good either way.

I vote YHM.  They're cheap, they're little, and they work just fine.

The rifle has an F marked A2 FSB on it right now.  I am not sure it if it Parked underneath or not.  That is why I was asking here.

So the LaRue and the DD will both cover any non-parked portions?

To be honest, this would be a great opportunity to bust out the dremel and shave down your FSB.  It will be rock solid, and if your barrel isn't parked underneath the FSB, then it won't matter.

BTW, the daniel defense clamp on will not be the best option, simply because you would have to install it after you put the tube on.  The DD clamp will not fit through the hole in the Larue rail, unless you remove some material from where the screws go in.  If you slim it down just a tad, it will work.  Without modding, it will not.

In all honesty, I would not reccomend the YHM gas block.  For two reasons, the first being the fact that I went through 2 before finding one that was actually the correct diameter.  Secondly, they are drilled all the way through (cheaper manufacturing) unlike VLTOR and the other more expensive ones, so carbon will fly out the front all over your barrel.  If you have a SS barrel it looks really bad really quick, but if you have just a normal CL barrel, you probably won't notice.

Just my 2 cents.

I bought a CMMG Micro GB to go under my new DD Omega 9.0 a few weeks ago and it all worked out fine, but since I've now decided to sell it all and go with a DD Lite 10.0, I went ahead and shaved my FSB down over the weekend.

Took about an hour using a hack saw, file, and grinder w/ flap disc.  Also cut about 1/8" off the large end of the tapered pins so they would match the new GB profile -

so, if I shave down the FSB that I have, the advantage would be cost, pinned FSB, and less messing around with changing parts.

Seems like a decent way to go.  Should I just use that quick blueing stuff to "refinish" the bare metal?

How exactly did you remove the FSB so you could shave it down?

I have an LMT upper and those pins are giving me a lot of trouble.
