I'm amazed at the variety of lowers for sale! Taking ease of build, cost, and popularity into consideration, which is the preferred lower. I'm sure that Colt would be preferred, but the cost is far more than some others. I don't intend to sell, but I won't live forever, and those who inherit would appreciate something of value. |

You're going to get alot of input on this topic and usually based on this is what I have. In my opinion there are a number of good lowers for many are finished and machined by the same companies. DPMS and Century are and I believe it is a company called Continental? Either way, a good forged lower built to mil specifications with a good finish should be about as good as the next one. Finish matching can be an issue. DPMS/Century has a more of a black smooth finish (RRA too) while Bushmaster has more of a matt finish. You need to have some idea who's upper you are going to use and match it. When I got my first Bushmaster I was a little dissapointed in the matt finish but soon realized it has one rugged look to it which I find desireable. On the other hand, I like the shiny finish of my J&T Kit rifle with Century lower as well. My Oly is somewhere between the two. I have a Colt upper that I switch out and it's a dead match for the Kit rifle, barely noticeable difference in the OLy and marked difference from the Bushy. Usually we don't have your problem for typically around here anyway, it's a bit hard to find lowers let alone a good choice without ordering through an FFL. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. Tj |

I just ordered a Mega (aka Stinger) lower from [email protected] It is the same lower three other big boys use, for $80. It also has an optional oversized and checkered magazine well, at little or no cost. Should go together like a...something that goes together easy. Cant think of any project I have ever done that ACTUALLY went as planned, so I have no analogy. The guys on the board here lovem. |
