I'm tring to get all of my parts picked out and ordered for my build.  I think I'm going to wait for the LaRue Billet upper but, I need help with a lower.  I want the best upper lower that you can buy. So any help on which lower you fill is the best is wanted.

You want the best upper lower?

Ummm... pick the one with the prettiest or tacticoolest picture, logo or text on it that you like.

I know that sounds a little cynical, but it's the truth.  They all do pretty much the same thing about as well as each other, with sample variation being the key.  One Lauer lower might not fit as well as a RRA or a Doublestar, but the next batch or next serial number for each may be exactly the opposite.  So, knowing that, buy the one you can either afford, or want to pay for the pretty logo.

Just stay away from Vulcan or anything cast.

That being said, I'm partial to anything LMT, Mega or CMT based... I like the LAR cuts least... Which doesn't really matter because they're nice receivers too.

Check out Denny's GTS/Stag lowers.  Great quality and $105!

Yup.

Yup.

If I was building a new rifle that I was going to put a lot of money into (i.e., the "best" of everything), I would spend the extra money for something a little different, that everyone else doesn't have... Wilson Combat, Les Baer, or a one-off custom-logo'd receiver.  I know I'd just be paying extra for the logo/name, but that's just me.

If such wasn't a consideration any of the major top-tier receivers would do the job, as has been said.

Anybody know if Sun Devil or POF billet lowers are any good.

Does the 7xxx vs. 6xxx forgings make any difference?  I don't see that listed much when I look on-line but, I understand the 7xxx forgings are stronger.

Anyone have a handy list of who uses what?

Thanks!

In recent months, I have seen several 'off-list' lowers over the last few months in CA.  From what I can tell, they all seem to be of similar quality.  The only difference I can see (see being the operative word) is in the finish.  That said, I really like RRA, Sun Devil, Superior Arms, Stag & Ameetec

I just bought a LRB Arms lower.  The finish and rollmarks are very nice.  The RRA lower parts kit fit sweet.  I would and will buy LRB again.

Sun Devil is light, smooth and has very good lines.  I'd buy one of those.  They are available here: Sun Devil Lower
