Only buy USGI magazines.

Every other military in the world seems to try something else.  They all end up using USGI.

I beleive he is referring to the British mags that Ammoman and others have been selling as of late.

Numerous people on the board have given high praise to these mags.  I haven't tried them and therefore am unqualified to give an opinion on the subject.

Perhaps you guys could help this man out.

I stick with USGI now after having bought other problem mags in the past.  I have heard good things about the Brit mags, but haven't tried them personally.

There is nothing wrong with the Brit mags except they are twice the weight of USGI mags. Some complain they wonn't lock on a closed bolt but I have found they need only a tap when NEW. Loading them to max and keeping them stored this way will help break in the heavy spring. They function just like a USGI mag and at less that $20 each are a great bargin. This said I wouldn't pay over $20 because they were surplussed cheaply. This is the same price range as good USGI's although you might go as high as $25 depending on what your looking for but whatever your choice they BOTH function fine. Just a note on some comments that have been made about rusting of the Brit mags.....most will never get in conditions to have this problem but treat the mag with the same care you would any other steel part. I suggest a well rounded collection of Brit 30's , USGI 30's and USGI 20's for they all have their own special benefits.

I've got 10 USGI mags and 10 British mags and I can't tell the difference once they're loaded and in the weapon.

I need 7 more 30 rounders to complete my (current) mag requirements and I'll probably get the British surplus.

My next will be either British or USGI NIW.

Bought a Brit 30 at a local gunshop and tried it out about 2 weeks ago. As many have reported, it did not give a solid click when inserted ... the top of the mag catch hole is probably a little low on the mag compared to USGI mags. Since the Brit mags are made of steel, I am hesitant to work on the hole with a file ... might give rust a chance to start. Other than that, it functioned just fine, including at full load of 30 rounds. HTH.

I have several Brit mags and they function flewlessly in my Bushmaster.  They are built like tanks.  You could probably run them over with a car and still use them.

I now have 3 of the British mags with only one minor problem.  As stated above, one of the mags didn't want to lock into the magwell properly.  It would drop out once the charging handle was pulled.

After looking at several mags, I found that just above the mag catch hole, the mag was pushed inward a little.  I carefully pried it out slightly and the mag has worked great ever since.

The British mags work fine and I can get them locally for $20.  After the last couple of USGI mags I got off the EE, I want to inspect mags before I buy them.
