OK heres the deal. I have a 16in 5.56 carbine and a 16in 6.5 Grendel carbine. I had planned on building a 20in Grendel as my next AR, but I've kinda got sidetracked with the idea of building a 7.62x39 carbine. I really don't have any interest in another 5.56 and besides for wanting to build a 20in Grendel I really don't care for 20in guns either. I will end up building the Grendel eventually either way, but I'm thinking about the 7.62x39 first since I already own one Grendel.

I guess the reasoning behind it is because 7.62x39 is cheap, I can form the brass 7.62x39 cases into Grendel cases and they both share the same magazine. My first AR was in 7.62x39 and I liked it, but got tired of tracking down franken mags and scraping the ones that wouldn't run. Pretty much got rid of it because of the mag situation back then.

Before anyone says 308 or 6.8 I have no use for the 308 and I dont want to do another 6.8 due to having to do mags and set up for loading it again. So what do you think? Are the reasons I have posted enough to go x39 or should I just build the Grendel and be done with it?

ASC has pretty much made that a thing of the past.  ASC has built a rep for making very reliable x39 mags.  I have 15 of them and all 15 are good to go, no issues.

My Son loves his ARK in X39mm, 18" SS tube, test firing steel Wolf w/ ASC magazine...

Good Luck.

My 7.62x39 sees more range time than my 5.56 or 9mm ARs. and it's my cheapest build, it's a cheap round to shoot in steel and if you can reuse the brass for Grendel that's a pretty good argument for one.
