I currently have a Colt LE690 that I use as my all around AR. Mostly plinking on the farm, but some (non-competitive) bench shooting from 50-200 yards. I mostly keep it set up with iron sights and then throw an optic on for longer ranges.

I'm close to purchasing another AR...not sure which would be a solid choice.

I anticipate my current Colt LE6920 to have a red dot and sling added to it, so it would a better all around AR.

In terms of the second AR, I will not be competing. This will again be mostly for punching holes in paper and plinking on the farm.

Is a S&W M&P the way to go?

I guess I'm just looking for an excuse to buy a new AR.

Budget of 1k

Build a rifle.  You can get a LaRue Stealth barrel for 225 and trigger for 125.

If you can afford it, KAC. If not, flip a coin on a BCM, LMT, Daniel Defense, or a another Colt, maybe 6940

Doing this right now actually.. just need to decide on an upper and lower. Not going to use my PSA or Anderson - it's just demeaning the LaRue

The right answer can only be found by asking the right question.  Define a mission or goal you want your rifle to perform, then buy / build accordingly.

Punching holes in paper? Get a 20".

Plinking on the farm? Hard to beat an AR pistol for pure fun-factor.

Oh hell...get both and you'll be all set!

Another vote for build

I'm biased though because I have never purchased a complete AR 15. The closest I have come is a PSA complete upper and lower.

I tend to be a fan of Mega forged uppers and lowers (I have 1 complete and 2 half completed builds), but lately they seem hard to come by. I'm actually thinking about trying Aero for my next build.

build a rifle length 18-20 rifle and enjoy a properly gassed rifle for a change.

The 20" barrel length has me interested...

What would a simple build such as a quality upper and quality lower that I can simply drop the pin in and shoot?

Just me, but I'd put together a 7.62x39 AR.

You will enjoy shooting the 30 caliber round.
