| I am feeling the need to get a Surefire for my M4gery and am sure that Surefire is the way to go. But here is my conundrum, which of these would be best suited to my simple needs: M2 Millennium, or the weapon-mounted M95/96? And can the M2 be mounted on an AR? Also, do the tailcaps fit on either of those three models? Thanks for the info! |

The M2 is not really a weapon light. Have you looked at the Surefire website under "weapon lights"? http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/co_disp/displ/carfnbr/93/sesent/00 If you like a forward grip I would suggest the M-900. These replace your handguards. More rail mounted weapon lights from Surefire May I also suggest not using anything under 9 volts. Great Surefire dealer who supports AR15.com Great pricing and goor supply of IN STOCK items. |

Hmmmmm....it seems my original post should have been more specific. [:)] I know the M2 is not a "Weapon Light" but was wondering if it could become one. Also, I have visited SureFire's website, as well as the websites of some dealers (MSTN,etc...). All the configurations of easch light are confusing, as I don't really know the difference between the M95 and M96/97. In fact, I am not too sure about all of the "light jargon". I already have a TangoDown VFG and a RAS-II so I want a light that will go on a KAC rail. I guess I should have asked what everyone here uses and why they chose that particualr light. Also, why nothing under 9 volts? Thanks! |

First off, about the only way you could have a true weaponsgrade light that could also double as a personal light* is to get a Classic 650 or 950 weaponslight and use a std. tailcap (or a 'clicker' such as the Z49). Below is a pic of a Classic 650 (6v) with tape switch - http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-8/315352/Dsc00338.jpg Next, the following pic will help you identify the Millennium Universal lights - Here's the break down of model #'s - 1st two digits - M9xxx = Millennium Universal system The 3rd digit indicates volts: M95xx = 6v M96xx = 9v M97xx = 9v but turbohead variant M98xx = 12v turbohead only The 4th digit indicates mount style: M9x1x = thumbscrew mount M9x2x = ARMS throw lever mount The start of 5th digit indicates switch type: M9xxP = momentary push button activation or twist for constant on M9xxC = partial pressure will give you momentary activation or if you press deep it will click for constant on/off M9xxSU0x = tape switch style tailcap, 0x would indicate length (06 would = a 6" wire plus the pressure pad.) And to further confuse you, the new XM tailcap that's coming out (C switch & SU0x combined) should have the coding M9xxXM0x. * Before Al (Size15s) corrects me, there are a few other tricks but the body components won't match in color. |
| So I guess that since my vertical grip is positioned toward the rear of my RAS-II that I will have to go with the tape switch model? I was thinking of the (let me see is I get this right) M962C. But now I think I may have to with the M962SU0x tape switch model. What do yall think? Can I have a "C" model and still place it far enough back to be able to click it with my VFG? Thanks! |

You'll be able to use the C switch at 3/6/9 with your VFG, it's only a matter of getting it situated just right. There are also offset angle adapters that will help position the light for better comfort - http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=20&t=177640 |

Quoted: I have a problem when the flashlight costs as much as my new RRA! No kidding! I hope that one condiders their needs for a light before counting off over 500 dollars for one. In my tiny 2700 sq foot house a couple of candle power is enough ... a 6P is blinding - I now use a 3TL with over twice it's light. |
