how can this one be anywhere near as good as the Peace River w/insert? if you look on the forums in the last few days I think comeone cracked an upper using the DPMS block. I think I have read either on the DPMS site or on this site that the DPMS block is not designed for barrel removal. |

lol I would tell you thats what my guys use also if I was selling it! Its prolly an apple orange debate, but the peace rive covers sooo much more area on the upper, just seems like a better deal to support most of the upper, where the DPMS just is held down by pins. seems like maybe some stretching might go on. |

The DPMS unit is not for barrel work and that's what gets a lot of people in trouble. There is nothing supporting the upper against the torque applied to the barrel nut, but that doesn't stop people from using it that way. Gas tubes, flash hiders, scopes and rings, whatever else, but not barrels. The Brownells/Peace River unit is what you should use to install barrels, it completely encapsulates and allows the vice jaws to support the upper during barrel installation. The DPMS has nothing but the delrin to support against the twisting. |

Ok...I called Brownell's about the lower block being too tight to fit in any of my mag wells. They said no problem and sent me another one. Same thing. The damn thing is too frickin wide. Did everyone else have this problem? I know I could just shave it down until it fits, but it pisses me off to buy something that is made right for what it is intended to do. Maybe they had a bad batch I don't know but if this is the norm they need to change their frickin' mold to be smaller and make the insert to the correct dimensions. Ok...rant off. Did anyone else experience this with the Peace River/Brownell's Lower Action Vise Block? |
That's what I use too. I've applied LOTS of torque with no problems. I like it because it doesn't mark up the upper like the peace river block. I also have a peace river block. I also use the DPMS block for LaRue tube installs. Edit to add, if you break an upper using the DPMS block, you are applying too much torque. |
