I don't quite know which upper receiver block to go with because they both seem so different in they way they function to hold the upper in place. I will be using it to change out a barrel. The two I am referring to are sold by PKFireams and the other is sold by BravoCompany. Any recommendations? Thank you, ~Dj |
The DPMS block works just fine for A1/A2 receivers as well because it supports the receiver from the inside. All the different receivers are the SAME on the inside. |
As did I until last year when I bought one of the DPMS 308 claws. I used it on a couple uppers and decided it was a quantum leap from the Brownells block I was currently using. I immediatly bought an AR-15 sized DPMS Claw as well and I have not used the Brownells block once since then. |
The difference you will notice will probably depend on how many uppers you tear down and rebuild. I average a dozen or so a week so I probably appreciate some little things that you might not notice if you are only doing a dozen a year. One particular thing nice is that you can install LaRue handguards without having to modify the block. The Brownells block needed heavy dremel work. |
Bownells may be cheaper than DPMS (by $0.05), but DPMS offers free shipping on online purchases over a certain dollar amount, $25 I believe. |
Ok, you don't know the secret. Brownells gives a dealer/Mil/LEO price (discount).Anybody can get the discount. It's all about how you fill out your profile/registration. Stock # 231-000-157 TL-PRC AR15 UPPER RECEIVER BLOCK (Pantherâ„¢ Receiver Claw) Retail price 49.90, Unit price(mine) 39.93. a savings of $9.97 Now you know. |
The discount is for dealer/Mil/LEO, not just anyone. If you don't fit into those three categories and you have filled out your profile/registration in such a way to make Brownells think that you somehow DO fit into those categories, then you are mis-representing yourself. Other people might also call that lying.
DPMS is better to me on DPMS products... Dealer price from DPMS is 28.65 on the Claw. Anyone with a firearms business can become a DPMS dealer too. |
DPMS wouldn't give me a dealers discount for having a C&R or being MIL or a traders license/ tax id number. I don't sell/buy enough stuff. For one or two parts Brownells works for me, plus they have everything I could use. Last order had my two M1 stocks, mark brown M16 gas tube wrench, hy-tech mag block, jointer tool, and three new taps. DPMS didn't have what I needed. My 01 had to send my two DPMS rifles back for me. They did replace them, just took time. But the DPMS receiver block is the shit ATB |
I order from Brownells a lot too. It's especially convienent when you need one or two pieces from 3 or 4 different companies. You are going to love that Mark Brown gas tube wrench. It's WAY WAY WAY better than vise grips at pulling a gas tube. See the tacked thread in the pistol calibers forum for the modifcations I did to the hytech block to get it working better. |
