Looking at the Vortex StrikeFire for my plinking/range rifle.

There are 2 that I am interested in.

One is a red dot only, and the other is a red/green combination.

Any preferences or recommendations on which one to go with?

Thanks

The red dot only will be brighter and easier to see in sunlight.

I have a few that are red/green and I like them. I can see why some might want the dot to be a bit brighter, but you so sacrifice battery life for additional brightness. Compare the battery life on the red only StrikeFires and compare them to the red/green models.

I've had mine for at least a few years and I haven't had to change the batteries on any of them.

The red/green model has served me VERY well to date. If I ever upgrade then it would be with an Aimpoint or ACOG.

I have the red only one on my rifle and I like it alot better then the red/green that I had. The red/green never did get bright enough for here in Arizona during mid-day sun. I like it so much I did a video review of it on You Tube.

Great customer service with a great warranty too!

I originally purchased the red/green version, and wound up exchanging it for the red only.  The green was pretty much always useless, and the dimmer red diode made the red dot useless outdoors. The red only is MUCH better, and is usable on a bright sunny day.
