I have been going over it in my mind time and time again. This rifle is going to be a Patrol rifle, so it needs to be accurate under 100 yrds, ultimately reliable, but not break the bank. I need iron sights for now, with the ability to cowitness with an Aimpoint or a EOTech later on. No need for any fancy stuff. Just a rifle I can bounce accross the pavement and still make a head shot with. (not a tall order right?) I finally found out that our duty round is the Federal 55gr. low penetration, not the 62gr. bonded like I originally thought. Also, I don't care if I have to SBR it since I will probably setup a entry upper later on. I already have a Stag lower that it is going together on. So here are the options I am looking at right now: 1. (From Eagle Firearms) RRA LPK, RRA Upper and Enhanced Bolt carrier Group, 14.5" Bushy 1:7 M4 chrome barrel, Phantom Flash hider, M4 Stock, M4 Handguards. ($583.50) 2. J&T Distributing DS-4 Kit with 14.5" 1:9 Chrome Lined Barrel ($559.95) 3. DSG Arms 14.5" Black Rifle Kit ($575.00) I am also torn between the ARMS #40 and the LMT BUIS. I like the fact that the LMT has elevation, so I can still take it out to the range and ding targets at 500. The LMT also looks like it would take more abuse (important in a squad car) than the #40. The prices are so close that I need some help. The primary concern is reliability, the secondary is accuracy, trigger pull is also high on the list. So let me know what you would do, or if I have missed something, what would you build to fulfill the requirements for about $600. I am not worried about the high speed/ low drag stuff or even name brands. I just need it to function. |

#3 DSG Arms. I would prefer this Calvary Arms set up with the Govt profile barrel and the 1/9 barrel twist with 55Gr. The only change I would make is to get the 16" Mid length that he also has, I'm just not crazy about 14.5 barrels. See if this applies as well, www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=2&f=166&t=145365. |
Bushmaster uses 4150 steel in their barrels, while I think that Cav arms uses 4140. I would go with your third option, not because I like Cavarms better, just the lighter barrel profile and twist rate than #1. |

Well, I went with #1. I just placed my order with Eagle. 1/7 is probably a bit fast with 55gr. but if anything I can get rid of it in a hurry if I have probs. Now my only problem is they were out of stock on the Phantom 5C2 and Charging Handle. I can't seem to find anyone who has the 5C2, a Mil Spec CH, and the LMT BUIS in stock. I really don't want to rack up the shipping buying from 3 different places. ![]() **ADDED LATER** BTW, Bravo Co. Kicks A$$. I got their last LMT BUIS, and they had the CH and Phantom in stock. It should be here by Thurs. |
