I have a Bushmaster 5.56/.223 "Patrolman" carbine. I hate the collapsible stock, and got a fixed A2 stock assembly for it. Which buffer and spring do I use? It's still a carbine, so wouldn't I use the carbine buffer? But I've also seen it written where it says, "Do not use the carbine buffer", with the A2. Which is correct? *Yes, I tried the search function.* |

You absolutely need the rifle buffer and spring. With a carbine buffer, the back of the buffer can't stop inside the RE. Thus you'd just be mashing your carbine spring silly.
Receiver extension dictates which buffer system you use.... NOT the upper or the gas system. I think there's a spacer you can get to run the Carbine buffer in the rifle tube, but if you're running the rifle stock, you might as well enjoy the better reliability of the rifle buffer system. |

Quoted: Receiver extension dictates which buffer system you use.... NOT the upper or the gas system. Thanks for the solid information. Too much anecdotal info out there. "I've used my carbine buffer in my full-length stock for years." doesn't help at all. I definately don't want to get into the use of spacers. It seems like anything that involves the use of spacers or shims, whether it's on your gun, your car, or whatever, is a PITA. |
