I am going to buy a mil spec tube but which buffer do I need for a mid length upper

Upper has nothong to do with it. What type of stock are you using? Collapsible is a carbine buffer and A1/A2 is a rifle buffer

i think that the OP is asking about buffer weights rather than types.  If you have a collapsible stock, then either the standard or "H" buffer will work... H2 or 9mm buffer will also work, but might develop problems with short stroking, though many use the heavier ones and swear by them, if you want to go with a very heavy one, go for it.  I use an A2 stock on my middy with an M16 carrier and it is smooth as glass. I use a H buffer in my 14.5" CAR stock, it has never had a problem.

Sorry, I do mean which buffer weight do I need. It is going to be a six position collapsible stock.
