I just got an Adams arms 11.5 carbine upper with a spikes tactical lower. Right now I have an H buffer in the lower. Should I go lighter or heavier or will it be fine with an H buffer?

I run a Spikes Tactical ST-T2 buffer which is slightly heavier than an H buffer on my 11.5" non-piston (DI) AR. No problems.

I run a Spikes st-2 in my 5.45x39 16" AA upper... So it sounds like St-2 works for multiple sizes

LWRC furnishes an H2 buffer with their rifles and complete uppers but notes you don't need anything heavy unless you have a select fire lower.  Just use what you have.

With my AA build I had a serious bolt bounce issue with a standard weight buffer.  Add one ST2 and no more issues.  Just an FYI if you find you're firing then "click" on the next round because the bolt is ever so slightly out of battery.

FWIW I was using a heavy buffer in my rifle.
Spikes complete lower, Adams Arms complete upper.   I kept having feed issues with the heavy buffer, the bullet tip would jam into the lugs and get stuck pretty good (Greasing the feed ramp seemed to help). If I recall correctly AA recommends standard buffer so I bought one for my rifle but I haven't been able to try it.

dont know if this helps or not.

There are two schools of thought on buffer weight. Many feel that a heavier buffer and even a slightly stiffer spring will spread out the recoil so its not so snappy. I started out going this way but was convinced to REDUCE my RECIPROCATING MASS which to me made the most sense. JP low mass carrier(with an old Adams Arms add on gas KEY) and JP captured spring with buffer. The buffer in this case is a feather weight 2.5 oz.

I assure you, my piston AR now has ZERO muzzle flip and a MUCH softer recoil. I run  the softest spring available(called an 80% White tipped spring) and have NO BCG bounce or any malfunction in the 1000 or so rounds that I have shot so far of every bullet weight and powder charge you can think of. Even rusty, nasty old steel cased rounds get gobbled up.
Only the most powerful 5.56 rounds will I feel any appreciable recoil which is still darn soft. And NEVER any muzzle flip. Super fast double taps are a breeze to do. The second round practically goes thru the same hole as the first round,

Go light as possible and even try reducing your GAS FLOW a small amount IF that will work for you. Your results CAN be amazing. Like anything else it can be fun to experiment.

IF that is your game, there is a buffer supplier that will soon come out with a LIGHT mil spec hard anodized anti tilt buffer that you can OPEN up and add or remove weight discs from it.
I can can't say WHO, but this WILL happen. Soon I think. Sorry, I cannot breach confidential info just yet. Consider this a near future option.
