Seems like a simple question but I'm having difficulty on which way to loosen my free float tube in my RRA ar-15.
If the gun is vised and the barrel is pointing to the right, do I turn the free float tube clock wise or counter clock wise or towards me or away from me? I know righty-tighty, lefty-loosey but it gets confusing because i'm left handed and my vise is on the left side of the bench while a right handed person might put his vise on the right side and the gun would be facing the opposite direction. If I just confused you more sorry, So which way to I turn it to loosen it if the barrel is pointed to the right? thanks. |

I wouldn't turn that tube in that condition (upper attached to Lower, Lower in vice)! You're putting a lot of cross-stress on the receiver pins and lugs.
Buy an upper receiver action block, or barrel blocks to do this. Or, if you're going to cheap-out (and that vice is a 4" or 5", no bigger) you can take the upper off the lower and place the upper, wrapped in an old t-shirt, clamped with the flattop turned 90 degress away from you (rotated to the right when viewed from the muzzle end). Why are you loosening / removing it? |

I got it off!
I had the lower in with it too but didnt notice any heavy twisting. I had to modify my dpms ar15 wrench, i had to cut a corner off near the delta ring pin in order to be able to remove the wrench after I loosened the float tube. Before I modified it the wrench would get stuck behing the ejecton port door pin holder. I get my 4 rail tomorrow via UPS! I removed the barrel and doing a super clean as it's easy access and removed the gas tube and cleaning that as well. |

Now that you can see the whole barrel, make a note of the barrel stamp code on it and go here:
