I'm looking into which RRA to buy but getting confused. I was wondering what the midlength CAR facilitates compared to the regular CAR forehand grip? How does the EOP and UTE2 outfit for sights etc. EOP appears to be raised for scope mounting. I like the 16" AR RRA Government Model or ACOG scope idea just not sure what receiver to go with? This is my first, and hope best AR, so plan on adding on as I go, fixed sites first then ACOG or EOTech. I'm guessing a CAR A4 would be my best starting point? Any suggestions welcome. |

Ok, I'll attempt to answer your questions in order: The midlength has to do not only with the length of the handguards, but also with the length of the gas tube. Some argue that a midlength gas system is more reliable than a carbine, while at the same time having less felt recoil. The EOP is PURELY for mounting high magnification optics and in no way facilitates use of iron sights...doesn't sound like that's what you're looking for. The UTE2 is set up for mounting of an Aimpoint to co-witness with your iron sights...general opinion is that they suck. You'd probably be better served with a standard carry handle. 16" is a good barrel length as it is the shortest legal without having to permanently attatch a muzzle device. Stay away from ACOGs or any other optic to start with. Buy mags/ammo. Learn how to use iron sights as they are the primary sighting system for the AR15 platform. Additional suggestions: MAKE SURE you get a chrome lined barrel. They are easier to clean, last much longer, and are less prone to malfunctions due to chamber fouling. Take some sort of tactical carbine course from a reputable instructor. The basic weapons handling skills you will learn in this course are invaluable Read at least the first few pages of Thisthread...lots of good info here. Any more questions...just ask, but there is a lot of good info already posted on this site. Just look around. |

Thanks for your reply. The debate for me is A2 or A3 platform. KISS A2, or allow room for future add ons by going with an A3? I have some time on weapons. I have spent time with the M-16 from 1982-1997 while I served in the military, just don't have a AR, but own many other small arms... |
