First, I want to mount either a scope or an acog.
Which scope/acog do you reconmend (provide link)

2nd, if I choose the scope, reconmend a mount.

I've been looking at the nikon monarch - mil-dot.. any good?

Couldn't resist.

Don't know much about scopes since I don't hunt anything I can't see which at my age means I don't hunt

Monarchs are very decent, but if I had $800 to spend I might look at a Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10 or a Bushnell Elite 4200 3-12ffp mil/mil. Both are about $600, and you would have enough left for a LaRue SPR-E or an ADM Recon-X to mount it in. But I won't try to talk you out of the Monarch because they are very decent scopes, even if they do have skinny 1" tubes limiting their elevation travel.

How much magnification are you looking for out of a scope?  I've got the GRSC CRS 1x4, I really like the ranging system that Ed Verdugo set up with this scope, its very easy to use once you've shot it a couple of times.  The bobro mount that he sells with it is also a great mount, my only problem thus far is that it won't clear the BUIS on our issue M4's but i'm sure I can find a solution before the next trip to the sandbox.

This scope would be for an ar-15; therefore, I'm looking at good magnification at 200-300 yds out max. I don't plan on using it past that. I need something that is good in bright/low light conditions, doesn't fog and isn't super heavy haha.

I think you should look at the Vortex PST 1-4. Mine is mil mil, and is an exceptional value for the money.

My needs have changed and I am turning my rifle into SHTF/KISS so I am going to be looking at the Micro Aimpoints, but this is in my opinion one of the best values out there for a 1-4. Build quality, fit/finish, turrets and glass are excellent.
