I'm wanting to put a free float tube on my plinker. Not looking to spend much.

This tube? (rifle length).

Over this gas block?

Current upper.

My question is can I use the lo-pro gas block and the DPMS tube on my upper? Would it be better to use a carbine length tube or use the rifle length?

Intended use is plinking and some short range varmint hunting.

Thanks.

That should work

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Low profile gas block is meant to go underneath free float tubes.

Edit (when you said tube i thought you meant gas tube).  I would go rifle length tube and then run it over the lo profile gas block.  That or keep the standard rail top gas block and go with a carbine ff tube but don't go with a carbine tube and a lo profile block; it just won't look right.

Also make sure you have a vice, upper vice block, and an armorers tool to do the job right.  If you're spending a couple hundred dollars on parts another $100 on tools that you can use a lifetime are a must.  It kills me to see people building 1000 uppers and then asking for ways to "jerry rig" the build process by using tools that are not AR-15 specific.

Yup that should be just fine. I.D. of the handguard is 2", height of the gas block is 1.35". Just remember you'll need an optic as you wont be able to mount iron sights with a decent aperture. Look for a cheap dpms armorers wrench and a decent upper vise block, or better yet borrow them from a friend.
