| I bought a case of the new Wolf Poly 7.62x39 recently and went shooting soon after. The few loose rounds left over afterwards were left in my range bag which is kept in a dry storage area between shoots. Yesterday I noticed the loose Wolf poly coated rounds had rust spots all over the steel cases. The ammo was never wet and was handled normaly. I checked the GI storage can that held the rest of the ammo and found no rust. The older style of varnished ammo had it's problems but at least it didn't seem to rust. Anybody else notice this problem? |
| I put a few loose rounds of the Wolf poly in the refrigerator where it is moist. Will check it in a few days for case rust. Hulls will rust I suppose from the case stretching and breaking the protective coating when firing. Also the abrasion encountered in the chambering and extraction would have an effect. |

The Wolf poly coat 7.62X39 ammo I put in the refrigerator doesn't show signs of rust yet after a week. I wonder if the rusty stuff I found was due to a lack of quality control. Maybe a few rounds get through without the coating. How could you tell? I just use the stuff for making cheap holes in paper. For anything serious I use IMI. |
