Is it OK to mount a X300 on a railed gas block? Will it get too hot at that location and fail?

I wouldn't do it. The light can probably handle the heat, but the transferred heat through the body of the light will probably make it very hot to the touch.

If it is for home defense and light training use it should be fine. I'd take it off for any really high volume of fire stuff.

Ditto, a few mags should be tolerable but much more than that at a steady rate of fire could potentially be a problem.

Bad idea. Just get an offset mount for the light and you will be good to go. You never know when you will need to fire more than a few rounds and risk damaging the light.
