What would be the date of manufacture of my upper... It has an MP marked barrel without any other markings such as the 12 or C.  The FSB is an early milled, unmarked and without a drain hole.  Would this be manufactured around 1965/66?

Any help you guys might offer would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brandon

Look one inch back from the muzzle for a C or 12, it has to be there.....could be very faint, I have one MP 12 that has a very faint marking. Anyway MP barrels, 12 or C are 1966-1968....

MP 12 is 66-67. If a C is present up near the FH then you're looking at 68 +

What Hipshot said, along with this caveat.......the no drain hole front sights were used to sometime in 67. Sometime in '67 Colt went with the drain hole. I say this with the knowledge/backing that the xm177e2 early builds used a no drain hole sight, while most of them had drain holes. E2's having first come out in Nov. of '66.
EDIT.......I wouldn't argue with M1 on anything retro.   I did not know the detail about having or not having the "C" or "12" placing the barrel at 66-67.  Good to know for my E2 build.

I thought the E1 came out in November 1966?

It's funny as I have a barrel just like that that I used to build my earlyish 604 and was going to post up the same questions about it. Only markings I could find were the MP between the front sight base legs. I got it off on gunbroker as just the barrel.

Yep, I checked it out closely and I promise, there are no other marking other than MP on this barrel!
Could this maybe be one of the earlier MP barrels produced before they started marking them with 12 or C?

Thoughts... Should I put a three prong or birdcage flash hider on this?

With no drain FSB, I'd use 3 prong. If drain hole was present, you could arguably use either.

I can confirm that I have a MP marked barrel with no C and no 12 at the muzzle end.
