I was shooting both XM193 55gr and American Eagle 55gr out of my Noveske Lo-Pro the other day and the accuracy was a bit disappointing.  Groups at 100 yards were running about 4".  I've shot the rifle before and I seem to remember it shooting a bit better than that.  I did recently change out the Burris Tac30 for a Vortex Viper PST, and I replaced the Vortex FH with a Griffin M4SD-II Flash Comp.  I shot some 60gr Hornady TAP out of it and the groups did seem to tighten up.  I guess my question is what sort of accuracy should I expect from 55gr FMJ out of a 1-7 barrel?

None of my rifles shoot XM193 very well. My DD 1/7 shoots XM193 at about 2-1/2"-3" at 100 yards. My RRA Varmint shoots it at about 2". Sig M400 1/7 is about 2-1/2" Either of these rifles shoot Hornady VMax 55 grain sub moa. From my experience it is not the rifle or twist rate but the XM193 that is not so great.

4" groups with M193 shot out of a 1:7 barrel is not unusual.  I shoot groups in the range of 2-1/2" to 3" with M193 shot out of my RRA carbine with 1:9 barrel.  My carbine will shoot 1" groups at 100 yards with good 64g factory loads.

In my experience the 1:7 barrels shoot bigger groups with run of the mill 55g ammunition.  High quality 55g bullets will shoot a little better out of a 1:7 barrel.  I would bet that 68g match will shoot great out of your rifle.

How many shots in the group? 3? 5? 10?

For a 10 shot group 4" is not that bad, as it only needs to be under a 2" mean radius at 200 yards to meet the standard (or 6" roughly) with a test barrel and test fixture.

Seems right to me.

Get you some match ammo. Thats a normal group size for xm193.

Your 4" group at 100 yards is exactly what you should get.  That ammo was build for "minute of man" whic is 4".

Thanks guys, I feel a little better now.  I seemed to remember it shooting a bit better in the past, but I'm not sure if I was using XM193 at that time.  I started wondering if maybe it was an issue with my new scope or comp.  I actually tried it without the comp and there was no change, so I pretty much ruled that out.  Just need to sit down with it and try some other loads next time.

Any ammo is going to have variations lot to lot.  It may actually have shot better for you before.

I don't know about the recent XM193 lots but the old XM193s (when they were first released into commercial market early 2003-05) shot 1 - 1.5" 5-shots groups out of my JP CTR02 @ 3300 fps , similar results with my friend's JP CTR02.  Needless to say, we stocked up on these 500 rds cases back then

a couple MOA out of a mil spec rifle barrel, basically accurate enough to hit a man sized target at 100+ yards.

If you need more accuracy buy a match grade barrel and match grade ammo, m193 is for plinking and shtf, nothing more.

If You take your time no more than 2.5 in, even with a 5moa dot.I consider it to be very accurate for non match ammo. Federal

I shoot M193 very well out of 1:9 barrels.

Some barrels like certain ammo better then others. Try buying some xm-193 from PPU, Federal, Winchester, and American Eagle. See what ammo your gun likes. Believe it or not there will be a difference.

Finally had a chance to do some more testing with my Noveske.  Shot several 100 yard groups using a variety of different ammo to include Speer Gold Dot 64gr, Hornady TAP 60gr, Hornady Match 75gr, Federal GM Match in both 69 and 77gr, and Black Hills Match in both 69 and 77gr.  As one might expect, the groups tightened up quite a bit.  The Speer was probably the least accurate of the bunch, while the Black Hills 77gr seemed to shoot the best.  However I seemed to get the occasional flier with all the various ammo, which prevented me from getting any truly great groups.  I'd say the best groups were about 1.25 to 1.5.  For a 16" med weight chrome lined barrel with a 1-4 scope and good ammo, does this sound pretty much normal?   I generally don't do much accuracy testing on my carbines, but I want to use this for some competition with shots out to 200, so I want to know what it is capable of.  I guess I was hoping it would shoot MOA or better, but I think maybe I expect too much.

I would say you are doing pretty damn good with a 4x optic and a chrome lined barrel. Noveske makes great barrels but you'll have to purchase one of their stainless barrels to cut your groups in half. More magnification and a really good trigger may help too. 1.25-1.5 moa from a chrome lined barrel is what most would expect with match ammo. Every now and then some folks will get a chrome lined barrel from a high end manufacturer and they will report .75-1 moa which is just luck of the draw. I'd say your doing alright.
