This what I get when I googled XM607:

an Avro Vulcan Fighter Bomber, designation R.A.F. XM607

What is the XM607 you speak of?

I suspect that he is talking about the original Colt CAR-15 SMG...AKA: the Model 607.

I while back I actually found a place that sells those foregrips and stocks, originals. They were not cheap, but they were pretty cool. The also had "fake" moderator replicas with no baffles.

That is Total Silence, I am buying a stock and hanguards from them.

that's cool. Did you find an original A1 upper receiver with FA but without brass bump as in the picture?
I looked for one of those, but could not find one. They all either had the brass bump, or had no FA.

That is what I am trying to research now.  What all the aspects of the XM607 were.  I am thinking about trying to find me a complete early SP1 as a donor for all my needs.

This is high on my list of future builds. I already have the upper and lower.  All I need to get is the buttstock and handguards.

It will be one that not many people will have.

It's funny, the older I get the more I appreciate the historical aspect of collecting firearms.

Anyone have any idea of the history of the M607? Like how many were used and when production switched to the M609 (XM177E1)? Are the XM177E1 and XM177E2 also considered CAR-15s?

Just curious, what effect does the brass bump have on ejecting brass? i.e. angle of brass ejection, whatever.
Don't let me hijack this thread now, just a short answer will do.

It would also be nice if we could get some history on this rifle...It looks interesting. The CAR style triangular handguards look real funny, but I guess at the time it wasn't so out of place.

There are three versions of the XM177.  The XM177, XM177E1, XM177E2.

Anyone know of another source for those forestocks?

I'm a cheap bastard....

pretty sure they are the only ones, short of knocking off the Colt museum.

It's not that bad a price for such a rare specialty item, really.
