I have an AR-15 with a rifle length YHM forearm that I bought a few years ago and want to change it to a midlenght forearm. Do I need a YHM wrench to loosen the jam nut or can I use an AR-15 wrench? Anyone with info that can help me with this project will be greatly appreciated!

an armorers wrench doesn't have the spanner part for the jam nut. Yhms wrench or possibly a taped off screwdriver and hammer. You may be able to find a spanner wrench a little less expensively than yhms wrench or a strap wrench might get you by.

That's what I was afraid of, n I don't have aYHM wrench. I was thinking bout the screw/hammer thing but didn't want to damage the nut, but I never thought of taping it. That is a great idea! Thank you so much!

A leather belt and some channel lock pliers will do to remove the YHM jam nut,as long as a gorilla didn't install it.

Screwdriver and hammer works for me. You would really have to hit it badly to mess it up.

I have an MI rail with a similar jam nut and I always just use a screwdriver and hammer, no tape and have never messed the finish up and I've taken it off and put it on more than a couple times
