I'm waiting for my duracoat to come in the mail and I will begin painting my upper, lower and barrel for my 6.8 SPC build, however, I have already run into a small hitch: The YHM lopro gas block is a bitch to slide down the barrel and get into place! What can I do so when I paint this barrel I don't mar the finish on the barrel?

I know: "it's a gun, who cares if it gets scratched," well, I care, at least for a little while.

So...does anybody have any suggestions to help with this issue?

I will have to assume that this is a bull barrel. If the screws are backed off enough and it is still tight why not just paint with it in place? If you open up the holes you may induce a gas leak and alignment issues since you will have to also clear the paint thickness.

If I paint with the block on, then I have to have the barrel nut on there too.
