What gas blocks will fit under the lightweight specter on a midlength rifle?

The YHM low profile gas block will fit. I have a rifle length with the low pro gas block.

I was under the impression that their low profile block would not fit under the specter length and still get covered by the end cap.  That is why the offer the "specter" gas block.  Am I wrong?

Short answer...  ANY of them and NONE of them.

If you use the Specter length (9.675") forend designed to fully cover the gas block on a CARBINE, you can use any of the low profile gas blocks, chopped FSB, pretty much anything except the weaver gas blocks to fit under the 2" tube.

The rub comes when trying to install the END CAP.  The mid-length barrel's gas system sticks out too far to install the end cap with ANY of the gas blocks, including the PRI, Troy, Vltor, and other extremely short ones.

Here is a mid-length barrel with a Specter length YHM lightweight forend.

I guess I'd be better off just using a heavy barrel instead of a midlength then.  I was wanting to put the YHM flip up front site with bayo lug (barrel mounted) on in front of the Specter lightweight forend.  I just wouldn't use the gas block function of the sight.  Anyone have a picture of something like this?

So IF I understand you correctly, you wanted to use one of these:

With a mid-length barrel and a Specter length forend.  Is that correct?

Do you already have the forend???

If not, then you just need to get the Mid-length YHM forend instead.

I would think that you COULD use the front sight shown above with a Specter length forend, you just couldn't fold the sight back down unless you cut a notch in the top of the forend for clearance.

I thought about using a PRI like that (with a forend covering up most of the gas block and only the sight sticking out) before they came out with their forend mounted flip sights.

You are correct.  I have the forend but not the barrel.  With a specter forend, it seems I would have to use a barrel with the gas port further back than on the midlength barrel if I did not want to alter the forend.  Maybe I can get someone to trade the specter for a midlenth.
