I know there are a ton of muzzle brake/flash suppressor threads but havent found anything on these two. Does anyone know anything about these muzzle brakes? just curious I am about to replace my Clinton barrel and put on an m4 light and am just looking for something that is effective for medium range and reducing hop. (noise isnt an issue, my hearing left me about 3 years ago)hanks

If you can't hear, than the Y comps might be just the ticket for you. All I know about them is that they're loud as hell, and I believe they're pretty decent at what they do. That said, I believe that there are better brakes and comps out there, I would think someone who does 3-gun type stuff would be the best person to ask about that kind of thing. I'm a flash hider kind of guy, myself.

Back in the ban days, my first AR ever was a 20" Bushmaster with a pinned Y-Comp.  Looked cool, shot soft, but holy crap was it loud for the guy standing next to you.  No real reason to get one other then looks, as there are better brakes out there if that is what you want.

I absolutely HATE mine , get something else. There are brakes out there that are as good and do better at hiding flash and dont blow the gas back at you. The Mini-Y-Comp is absolutely horrible.. My friends wont shoot next me because of it. It's very obnoxious!

i'd go with the DNTC or FSC556.

You may not care about the muzzle blast but the shooters to the left and right of you on a line are gonna hate you. The brake is more distracting than it is effective. It just plain sucks. THe mini makes you ears and eyes bleed (slight exaggeration).

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible. Sounds like you are standing next to a .50 cal when you shoot a rifle fitted with one. Hate them. My buddies 20'' AR had one, and it was terrible

What?  What did you say?  Can't hear you!  I just got done shooting my AR with a 14.5 inch barrel and a mini Y comp.  Can't hear a damn thing!  Yes, I had my ear muffs on, and plugs, too!  Nope, still can't understand what you're saying!  Maybe in a few hours when my ears stop ringing, we can talk!

Hey I appreciate the honesty. Though I am used to loud ( 300WSM A-Bolt II with the BOSS sys ) but gas in the face isn't my bag. Im gonna start deciding between all the hot picks. Thanks fellas

They can be tamed considerably by reaming out the central bore to 1/4 inch to 5/16 inch, while retaining their ability to keep muzzle flip to practically nothing.

I had a mini-y comp for about... umm... 60 rounds or so.

Then I sold the upper, it was very effective for reducing felt recoil, but not only the guys to the left and right of me, but even ME while shooting, just... WOW...

loud...

ETA:  Now my old style JP Recoil Eliminator?  That makes it loud to the left and right, but as the shooter it doesn't bother me at all.

Just shipped mine off today to ADCO to get it switched out. Looked cool but loud!

ok everyone seems to love the ones by PWS (DNTC and FSC556) but what about Troy's Medieval? haven heard many people say much about it?

I have a perm / pinned mini Y on my Postban Bushmaster and hate it. It is incredibly loud! I made the mistake of shooting one round off with no ears on and it was one of the worst things I have done to myself. I am looking to remove it and pin something else on!! A horrible noise maker even with plugs and head gear it is brutal.

I also would like to hear some feed back about the Troy  Medieval Muzzle Brake PWS, or the Yankee Hill Phantom Comp/Brake.
