I have a nearly full case of yellow box steel core 7.62 x 39 (Norinco?) that I got on the side with a rifle purchase 10 or so years back. I have been told that it is considered "armor piercing" by the gov't and can't be imported anymore. Is there any truth to this? I am looking to trade or sell this stuff. My local indoor range, which has an indoor 50 yd, told me it would damage their bullet trap.

I believe that this ammo had a steel core so it will go through more medium then just a lead core.  This ammo is considered desireable for whatever reson so I wouldn't shoot it.  I thought that we can't import this ammo because of some kind of sanction against china or something.  I'm sure that someone will chime in with the correct details.

The PRC ammo from China that came on stripper clips was ruled armor pierce back in '93-94, had a pin inside the bullet.    Does your box actually state "steel core", or "steel jacket'?

I have a little over 500 of the PRC put away.

Sounds like the real thing.
It has not been imported in over 12 years.
I believe you can thank Klinton for that.
Save it for when SHTF.
Or sell it and make a few bucks.
