| What length barrel did you get as your first AR? I have drawn the conclusion that most newbies to the AR choose the 20" barrel over the carbine because its resemblence to the famous M16 and then move on to the carbines and M4gery's. I did. |

My first turned out to be my first and second at the same time, I could not decide between the Bushmaster DCM or the M-gery with Mini-Y comp so I got both because I had the extra cash. Now, almost three years later, I have eight AR's of which four are Pre-ban and four Mega lowers waiting on the ban to set so I can build them the way I want. I tell ya...this is a sickness!!!!! |

For my first AR, my son (Juggernaut) and I bought 2 OLY PCR receivers, then 16 inch parts kits from J&T. We spent 2 evenings building both of them. (with only Duncan Logs book and instructions for help - lost the damn selector detent pin 6 times in 10 minutes) Later on, he wasn't so crazy about the OLY cool factor and I believe he sold it to get another pre-ban BUT... not me, I dropped an ASA 9mm mag block in it, bought a 9mm upper from a deal that juggy had going, and got a few 20 and 30 round mags - it rocks [:D] |

First was a 20" Bushmaster because I was interested in varmint hunting. It was supposed to be a free floating barrel but they shipped the wrong one. I didn't want to wait for a month to get the free floating barrel so I kept it and they credited me the difference. Some day I'll send it in and have the front sight milled and install the much nicer current free floater tube---might even get it fluted. But as with the original post---my second is an M4gery (with ak style brake) |
| Bought SGW Stop Sign A1 with SS 20 inch Bbl. Kit. I opted for the chrome bolt carrier, heavy barrel, round hand gaurds and rapidex rear sight knob. Since then, I put a three prong fh and triangle hand gaurds on it. I still have it. I had to ream out the chamber a little and put new fire controls from BM? or DPMS? in it to get it working properly-where in the heck was AR15COM when I needed them in 1984? I sure could have saved a lot of time if AR15COM was around! This is the only ar I have that has a chrome bolt carrier-it is slicker than a nanner samwich! I sure did learn a lot after building this puppy from OLY. I do remember riding the bus uptown on Saturdays to watch a movies and going to the big sporting goods store and drooling over an SP1 for about 300 bucks. They had one hanging from the ceiling just over the display counter might as well been a million bucks! Been a few years. Amos |
| my first was a 16" kit built on an ASA lower (not built by me...). not really what i wanted at all but i was all geared up about a private sale AR. sold and replaced everything but the lower itself (and its internal parts), which continues to serve me well (still my number 1 AR....) |
| Bought a pre-ban Oly with collapsible stock, A2 upper and 11.5" SS HBAR and 5.5" flash hider (purely because I liked the way it looked - almost nothing practical about it). Paid $450 for it and sold it two years later for $550 - thought I was making quite the deal at the time. |

My first AR was a pile-of-colt pre-ban CAR15 with a 14.5 barrel. Kept it for all of a week. My next one was a pre-ban Eagle Arms CAR15 with a 16 barrel. I loved that one but my ex made me sell it and spent all the money on kitchen crap before I could stop her. After that I got an Olympic CAR97, nice little shooter. Now I have an Olympic varmint that shoots 3/8 groups that I love but have to sell for other toys. [8D] http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=21&t=171568 |
