ZM Weapons
Just found their site on the net. Does anyone have any experience with them? They look killer and have alot of good features. A little pricey but if an AR is going to be my step into the centerfire rifle world, I want it to be different and stand out. They look slightly different in build but are they all interchangeable with the standard AR? Any info or experience is much appreciated.

Sorry no, but seems a little pricey. Too many others out there to consider this one.
How did you find them? Searching, reccomended or what?

I saw a price guide that had one with no contact info and couldn't find anything about them on the net. Then today looking through the abbreviations thread I saw a link to em'. I just saw the LMT MRP upper so now I know where I'm headed. In a couple months hopefully I'll be posting in the picture thread instead of asking stupid questions.

They are a very cool but technically obsolete design.  They are accurate and light recoiling, but they lack a free float rail and have a very heavy steel folding stock.  If you've got the cash, the LMT MRP is the tool to have.  Go to MSTN in the industry forum and have a look.

ZM Weapons says they will be coming out with a new version of the LR-300 in late December of this year that presumably will better compete with the MRP.  I honestly don't know anything about it, but given the time-frame you described for your purchase, you might not want to write off ZM Weapons just yet.

Hmmm. Do you know if they are going to use the conventional gas design? They definately make some cool looking rifles but I'll have to wait and see. I got a few months to decide. (I hope atleast.) Thanks guys.

No, I don't know.  My last post is the extent of my very limited knowledge.  I would guess the new design will also be op-rod activated just like the old one, but that is nothing but a guess.  If you have more questions, write to Mr. Zitta at [email protected].  He seems to be very responsive.

The current ZM rifles already have a modified and cleaner gas system that moves all of the action to the upper, which is why it has a folding stock instead of a collaspable. If anything the LMT Monolithic Rail Platform is a step backwards compared to the ZM

If the ZM was cheaper, it would be more popular. Cost is what keeps it obscure. If it was a $1000 gun you'd see a lot more market penetration

The MRP is lighter than an M4, and it has a HBAR, and it is easier to service in every respect.  The ZM is heavy and far more complicated.  One advantage of the MRP is that a piston op system would be fairly easy to make.  There have already been rumors that LMT has one in the works.

Interesting. The one thing I realized is what happens if something fails. Sounds like a pretty penny to me. I think I may just go with the MRP. More parts available and if I read correctly, interchangeable barrels are always a plus. May get a ZM in the further future, but my funds don't prohibit me to own both.

ZM uses a modified AR gas system, not quite gas piston. This places the recoil spring in the forend and keeps some of the gasses out of the action.

ZM is doing a new production run of lowers and uppers, should be ready late December '04....  JUST in time for the SHOT show and should be IN STOCK for all those tax refund checks some to come!

I hope that ZM jumps into the fray with a new offering on the same level as the LMT MRP!  Allan is a great guy to deal with!

I remember seeing their stuff in a buyers guide a while back.  i thought it looked pretty interesting until I saw the price.   Their website has the kits for $1565!!

I will definitely pass.

ETA:
Hey, why do you thin  they put such a crap-ass red dot optic on a $2000 gun?

Do you think a "crap-ass" red dot makes that much difference with the iron sights up?

Maybe it is for "blue light special" shoppers who can't afford anything else?

Beats me.  You'd think, however that if they could scrape up the dough for that gun, they'd be able to spring for an eotech or an aimpoint or something....................tacpoint??
