I wish i had zero issues, but instead what i have are zeroing issues. I've got a 16 inch bushy and i put a vortex strikefire on it a while back. I seem to be having trouble getting it to zero...i've taken it to the range several times, trying different ammo but i get the same result. I go through the zeroing procedure...3 shots, check adjust, the next 3 will sometimes be exactly where i want them with the adjustment and sometimes clear the hell away from the center of the target. For example today...Indoor range, Federal XM193's, 60 feet to get started. My first group all landed about 2 inches left from center but dead on elevation wise. I moved it right a few clicks and fired 3 more. These landed dead center of the target...tight group both times. I think its great and good to go. I shoot a few more to check and they land about 3 inches low and 3 inches right. It happened a couple other times with the groups (still tight) landing all over....WTF? I thought the strike fire was supposed to be paralax free and i figure if it were the problem they would be landing everywhere. Is it the rifle? Me? any thoughts?

ALways zero your irons first that way you will have a baseline. If you zero your irons, and the ammo is grouping within 3 inches with irons, and your scope doesn't zero, then it's the scope. If you can't zero the irons then it's you or the ammo.

XM193 is good enough for battle, but not going to group under a quarter in most cases at 100 yards.  Another way is to have someone else who can shoot well try, that way you will know if it's you or not. Flinching, jerking the trigger, inconsistent positioning can all cause inconsistency.  There have been some strikefires that did not hold zero in the past, I would make sure you are dead on with irons first. That will tell you a lot when it comes to zero the optic.

Most red dots have to be >50yrads to be paralllax free

If it keeps moving, Ive got money on the dot

Is your barrel loose?

Are you using a sling without using a FF tube?

How is your optic attached to the rifle?

No sling, though i have had one on there before. Now I use a Magpul ms2 so its not hangin on the barrel. The red dot is attached by the single ring that came with the strikefire. The barrel isn't obviously loose but i can't tell for sure. Do i need an armorer's tool to tighten it? or is there another way? I would lean toward the optic too but the inconsistency is in the group placement, not the group itself. I can shoot a tight group, the groups just end up all over. Some shots were supported sitting and some were unsupported standing...that make any difference? Thanks for the imput.

To tighten the barrel nut you would need a barrel wrench at minimum, but a vise and upper receiver vise block would be needed as well to do it right. A gas tube tool wouldn't hurt.
You would need to remove the handguards and gas tube/gas tube pin before you can tighten it.. Honestly unless you can feel any slack at all between the barrel and receiver, I do not think this is your problem.

Try shooting groups with your irons, see how you do.

If it holds zero with irons, it's the optic or the mount.
