| anyone running a .17m2 upper? just saw one today and thought it would be a hot little upper. input? |
Oly was selling a setup that had something like slide-in barrel liners for a special AR barrel. It used the M261 conversion unit and there were a few reports here on ARFCOM that they worked pretty good but then all went quiet. I built my own and it was very accurate. My only real problem was nobody sold 17 Mach2 ammo in this area and I could only get it via gun shows or over the internet. |
I am really glad to see you got that setup together -- and that it shoots good for you. I was worried that you might have given up on it. That little 17 mach2 is one hell of a good round -- I just wish it was more available in my area. What scope mount is that on your rifle? Looks like you can adjust the scope position to any place you want! |

Thanks! It took me quite a while, as it turned out to be a much more difficult project than I had at first thought. So many variables to play with, ruptured cases if you do it wrong, redoing the breech end since I screwed it up the first time, etc, etc. The scope mount is a Yankee Hill rail extension that I got a great deal on from EBay, along with a set of Millet rings. What kind of accuracy do you see with yours? Operationally I'm there, but I think I can still bring in the group size some, but I'm not sure how. I was thinking a harmonic stabilizer, but I'm not sure what the next step is. |
The type of setup I really wanted and finally went to is a nice little carbine with another barrel I made. The original setup shot ok for what I had -- around 0.30" at 50 yards but was a heavy rifle sized setup. I went to a carbine with an A2 upper receiver and a Colt clone 4X scope on it. I decided it was more fun and I can hit just about anything out to 100 yards because that Mach2 shoots so flat. The places around here that sell the Mach2 ammo charge almost as much as the price for the 17 HMR so I finally had to say the hell with it. I got into one of those 10/22 things and have made some interesting stuff -- at least for me! This is not the place for 10/22 talk but being retired I can't afford to keep messing with the AR's -- well, maybe a little. |

O/T: AR-Fan, please contact me. I have a question to ask you and you're not accepting IMs or Emails..... I think 17M2 are great!!! For an AR I would rather a pistol or SBR though....SBR would be nice, but the pistol would be easier. I am working on a project (soon to be posted) hence the question for AR-fan Edwin |
