I am buliding a .22lr and would like to know if I need the buffer and spring to hold the bolt assy in place?  I was wanting to leave it out to keep the weight down.
Thanks for any info.

No.  You don't need the buffer retainer and buffer retainer spring either.  The square on the top, rear of the .22 bolts prevent them from going into the extension.

RLR350 is correct, however.......some have had light strikes when not using a buffer and spring, because the entire conversion unit (I am talking ciener, spikes,etc....) can move forward and back, ever so slightly. There have been others experiencing this. It may me mostly with the dedicated style chamber adapter.

I was getting these myself and machined a smaller "buffer" out of nylon. It was still light weight, but was enough tension against the rear of the ciener unit to keep it from moving.

Hope this helps.

You may have perfectly good luck with nothing behind it....try it and if you end getting light strikes here and there....that may be the reason.
