What would be a good plinking upper to go on a RRA NM lower? I obviously don't want to mess up the NM upper with a conversion kit, so I'm going dedicated. As much as I hate poorly made products, I really wouldn't be bothered with an upper that might stovepipe once in a while, I just want a safe plinking upper. Sorry if you get these kind of topics all of the time, but sometimes the search function is worthless, because obviously if I search for .22 in the rimfire forum I'm going to be flooded with results. |
thats fine and dandy, but DPMS has temporarily halted selling their 22 uppers/rifles due to bad extractors. unless you find someone with some in stock. BTW, im waiting for their fix so i can get one. |
And I happen to have the crave for one, not the funding Thanks for the advice though |
It wouldn't. I'm looking for a dedicated upper because I dont want lead deposits in a NM upper, the new upper will go on the NM lower because it will be fine. I think maybe you just read it wrong. |

I have several thousand through a dedicated .22 w/ceiner kit bolt group and machined breech face. If you are going to use it for highpower practice you are going to be dissapointed with anything less...Compass Lake or Accuracy Speaks for that purpose. Ceiner or M261 has pros and cons. Otherwise Kuehl, Kurts, Fulton and DPMS all have good products to plink with. You might get one out of Rick Kuehl, Kurt or Fulton that will drive a tack but you'll be SURE to get one from the aforementioned. I had a Douglas bbl turned and machined...after that its a matter of barrel nut/float tube, front sight base...you're done! (until you have to tweak the Ceiner mags for function...) Good shooting! ETA Most rounds w/RRA lower and 2 stage trigger. A few w/Armalite lower and Geisle 2 stage. |
And now I'm not nearly so confused! Thanks! |

I've got two dedicated uppers. The first is a Kurts Kustom Firearms w/ a 16" barrel. I've got over 18000 rounds through it. Aside from the firing pin breaking at about round # 18000 I've had no problems at all. I've had it for 5 years now. The second is a DPMS 20" DCM upper. I've had it for a little under a year, and have 3000 rounds through it. I have had no problems with this upper at all. I don't shoot at paper targets for groups (except for when I am sighting in), so I can't speak for it's accuracy. I can tell you that I can consistently hit empty 12 gauge shotgun shells at 50 yards. I'd highly recomend both. Thanks, Brad |
