What is the .25 caliber bullet selection like?  6mm offers just about anything you could want, and 6.5mm allows you to use some nice SMKs.

if it's like my .257 rbts. ackley improved, and 25-06,,,it's a lot deadlier in practice than on paper.  should be excellent for deer size game.

I'll let you know when I get mine from DTech. Before plunking the bucks for a different caliber I thought long and hard about the choice. Picked the .25 for the bigger bullet as I've shot several deer with a 243 Win and wasn't overly impressed. However, a friend had 25-06 which impressed me very much and since the 25 WSSM runs with the 25-06 the decision process was short. For long ranges on game it's a better choice than 6.5 Grendel which was the other caliber seriously considered.

What is Mike quoting for an order-ship time on that upper these days?

When I sent my deposit he quoted 18-20 weeks which would have been early April. I haven't bugged him about how much longer since I've got more guns than I can shoot. I've heard through the grapevine 6-8 months is more realistic. Mike did tell me he really got clobbered after the election and the ETA was an estimate.

Thanks LtBlue425.  I guess that is pretty reasonable these days.

I looked really hard at the 25wssm and ended up ordering 2 of the 243wssm uppers from Dtech.  He was moving into his new shop last month and getting everything sorted out.  Sounds like the 6 month number, but hopefully less.  I love my 25-06 for deer and antelope, but the 25wssm is geting orphaned by all the ammo and gun companies now.  The selection of 6mm bullets and their performance waaaaayyyy out there made up my mind.  Shot 3 bucks last year on opening day with 62 grain power points out of an m15T and it did a fine job, not like a 30-06, but did the job quite well and really changed everyones opinion of the "mouse gun".  I do say the 25-06 has given me the most instant kills of anything I've ever used, so the 25 would be a great choice for a dedicated reloader.

I've noticed things like case gages not being as available as the 223/243WSSM cartridges. I survived reloading and shooting for decades without such tools so I guess I can survive without them for the 25. For a while I was concerned because brass was a bit scarce but lately I've been finding it in stores and on-line. Even if 25 weren't available I'd neck up 243 WSSM cases.

I wish the 223 WSSM was available 20-30 years ago when federal lands were wide open for dog shooting. I often thought, back then, that an AR shooting a 22-250 level cartridge would be the perfect dog rifle. Just think how many more dogs would have been eliminated with an 75-80 gr bullet out of a 22-250 power case. Ahh, to think back and fantasize.

Regarding the 22-250 and deer, its a very popular caliber out West as an all-around deer/varmint caliber. In the mid-80's I took two deer with the 22-250 with handloaded 60 gr bullets (about the heaviest SP's at the time) but wasn't impressed with the penetration. I felt then and more so now, that the .22 centerfires could be reliable deer harvesters with well designed bullets.

I was thinking of having a custom Rem 700 22-250 barrel made with 1-7" twist for the heavy bullets. Might still do that but an upper in 223 WSSM is very attractive too.
