I have been thinking about getting a .277 Wolverine barrel. I reload both .223 and 6.8, so I'm set for brass and bullets. Anyone have any opinions? I would imagine it is fine from 0-300. But what about beyond that?

there is an18 page thread here   http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_121/636402__277_Wolverine__6_8_in_a_5_56_Case_.html&page=18

You can also go to his web page and look at the threads there.  Personally I like the idea and am thinking about building either a bolt action or an AR style.  Just haven't made up my mind.  The ballistics that they posted look good to me.

The original thread is locked.

Is this now the main thread, or is the whole .277 project a no-go on ARFcom since it isn't a project by a big-name company now?

I built one and played with it for a while.  I put an 18" barrel upper on a rifle lower.  Initially I had problems with case extraction but cured that with fresh Colt extractor springs.  Accuracy was decent with the loads I tried.  For some reason my barrel shaved rings off bullets as they went through the chamber throat.  I sent it back to Mad Dog and they touched it up with a finish reamer.  It still shaved the rings afterward so Mad Dog sent me a replacement barrel.  I decided to move on and sold the replacement barrel before putting a round through it.

Loading was no problem but I think the powder selection is limited.

My thought at the time was that it is a neat idea not quite ready for prime time.  I haven't kept up with it so that may have changed by now.

Yes, this is now the official thread.  Let it be written.

I'm planning to function test and sight-in my first .277 tomorrow.

I debated on building one a little while back. It was between this and 300blk. The only reason the blk won out is because of ammo cost.

MDWS 16" stainless barrel with a Leupold Vari-XIII 2.5-8 scope in a Burris mount, MI M-LOK free-float, regular GI trigger.  90gr Gold Dots from commercially-loaded box of 50.  Only shot 4 rounds to test function and sight-in.  Got into black in 2 rounds, then fired 2 to confirm 50-yard zero.  How accurate is a 1" 2-shot group off an improvised rest?  Not a 3-round group, not a 5-round group, and certainly not a 10-round group.    But I'm happy with it until I can roll a couple hundred practice rounds.
