I have built 9 ARs now (thanks to this site and a few friends aiding in my BRD) and 4 SBRs.  I've never built a .308.  I have a friend that desperately wants to build one.  Can you guys help me out and let me know where to find some good priced lowers?

Anything I need to know that might be COMPLETELY different that I am not aware of already?  I understand that the parts differ though.

Thanks in advance!

Free bump. Lots of differences in 762 ARs. I'm currently building on an Aero M5 set

There are two basic patterns for AR-10 rifles. It's not like AR-15 with one designated form and size. I recommend going with DPMS pattern, opposed to Armalite pattern. They perform equally well I would say, but aftermarket parts availability HEAVILY favors DPMS pattern rifles in this platform. Once you know that it's really just about picking out compatible parts that you like. I picked up one full AERO M5 set last week and it fits together well. Haven't shot it yet. I have another m5 lower waiting around to be built on to.

I strongly recommend get the upper/lower receiver together as a set or at least from the same maker.

Since there is no "Standard/Mil-Spec" on the 308AR platform. Generally speaking there is the DPMS and AR10 pattern.
You don't want to build a lower and find out later the upper receiver doesn't fit or not available.
Maga MATEN set for example, it comes with bolt latch and taken-down pins already.

I bought a aero lower for my short barreled 308 upper. Works great. Just search for deals.

I have to agree with buying a upper/lower combo.  alittle more $ out the gate but atleast they will fit together better.

Is your 308 upper also made by Aero? DPMS pattern?
You are giving an impression that any old upper will fit, which isn't the case.

Agreed on the upper and lower from the same company....

There may be a lot of naysayers chime in on what I say but I would buy a stripped upper and lower from PSA. A few small parts are not standard (takedown pins, serrated BCG, bolt catch...I think that is it) but everything else is LR308 compatible so you have numerous options. I've seen some nice guns built on PSA... and generally for a lot less $$$...

DPMS pattern. Bought the complete upper from KAK Industries.
