.03-06? What is that? A .30-06 necked down to .03? With 5 grain bullets, you could probably get some crazy velocities (almost as high as a 6.8 SPC IV DMR 2.5(b) with a 72 twist barrel), but it will be a barrel burner for sure. Don't know about a .03-06 but the .30-03 was the predecessor of the 30-06. |

Seems the coffee does wonders on your eyes in the wee hours of the morning. The only reason why I ask is that I love the AR platform and design. I have nothing against the .308 round either. But I, and my father, have many fudd rifles chambered in .30-06, as well as lots of ammo too. I have a case or two of surplus M2 ball from the CMP. So bottom line is - I don't want to add another caliber to the mix. Although that is not a real excuse. |

How about the model 1918 Browning Auto Rifle (BAR). It's the first Auto Rifle. Donald I have shoot a class 3 BAR, and I want one. The only problem is I'm a little bit short on the funds, like maybe $15-$25K short.
I know that OOW has a semi version of the BAR for about $3K, but wats the fun w/o the happy switch |

Does such a beast exist? Thanks for asking...man I've been hoping for the same thing for a while now. Other than VERY pricey custom builds, no it doesn't exist. Makes too much sense, and besides, too many people are stuck on the "well...308 is teh same ez an 06..." No, it's not. |

Yes there is an 30.06 ar type rifle, It wasMade By Cobb and is the MCR-300, They can be found on Gun Brokers and CDNN used to carry them and May still have some.
I have one. Cobb was bought out by Bushmaster, and Maybe bringing out thier New 30.06 Caliber rifle in the fall of 2009, I guess We will have to wait and see! there is another thread on this, in this area CDNN 30.06 |

I've never heard of this, the only thing that I've heard is that it is possible, but would require alot of work (very custom parts). So is the MCR-300 like the .50BMG uppers - where the regular 5.56 lower is used with a single shot upper? –– never mind eta: never mind - did a search and found my answer - BOY do I want one now... |

this would be very cool. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/freeads/auction.cgi?action=ViewItem&ID=1217344490&Status=3
http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=121&t=396844 I like that. I have a Rem 7400 30-06 that was my Dad's, built in the 50's. It is still a great deer rifle, which i still use. I already have an AR15 5.56, I dont want to have to stock up on to many different rounds, so i would like a 30-06 cal AR. A M1 Garand be a fun gun and there are matches all over the country. |

Just t Drive You Crazy here are links to 2 MCR-300's

I'm in the same boat as you. My father and I both have Remington 7400's as our FUDD deer guns - they work, but not much fun. I also have a H&R M1 Garand - which is fun to lug in the woods of WI and MN. I've taken deer w/ both, but it would be fun to add the COBB to the collection. Although lugging 13 or so pounds in the woods may get tiring very quick, but thats half the fun

| I have never owned a .308, but after reading up on the ballistics and action of 30-06 vs .308, i think i will just look for a .308. I'll use my 30-06 for hunting and get a nice M1, scout, socom, AR10 or whatever for shoots. Similar ballistics, but the .308's shorter action resulting in a lighter gun and the wide range of gun styles will make my choice easier to find. |

Yes I guess I could
"Get a Remington 7400 and get a Pistol grip stock for an 1187 12 ga and 10 rd ram line mags problem solved for $600" But then I would Have A Butt Ugly Rifle that Looks like a Shotgun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes Cheap is Just that Cheap!! The Original Question was Is there an AR type Rifle In 30.06? The answer is Yes! Cobb made an AR clone in 30.06 Used 1918 BAR Magazines. It is a Truly Nice Rifle, Yes I have One an I really like it!! Cobb MCR-300 in 30.06 can be Found on line. If Bushmaster ever gets off it's Butt You may see thier version of the Cobb MCR-300 in Production in late 2009. I hope it comes soon, as I would love to see More 30.06 AR clones on te Range!!! The AR Rifle System has Proven it can be used in Many Different Calibers, Just Stand Back, Because You just haven't Seen the last of It's Adaptations Yet!! Tom |
| I don't believe you can run a 30.06 round through an Ar-15, the AR-10 platform could maybe handle a similar load but if you are looking for something that can duplicate ballistics of a 30.06 and function in a AR-15 platform, Olympics Arms just came out with the 300 Olympic. It's capable of duplicating 30.06 ballistics, but functioning through the AR-15 platform. New design though. They are just putting them into production and who knows about ammo. I'm assuming reloading would be the best option. Take a look at it, very similar to a 243 or 25 WSSM cartridge. |
| Depending on your reason for asking about the 30-06 you may want to look at the RND EDGE series of rifles. They don't actually offer a 30-06, which won't help you if you want the '06 because you're sitting on a 30k round hoard of milsurp, but they do offer AR style rifles in .300 WSM, .300 RUM, .338 Lapua, as well as others. All of which exceed '06 ballistics in a (somewhat) similar sized package. They may also do a custom chamber for you without too much hassle depending on their backlog and such. You could also, if you're completely wedded to the '06, get the longer action with a .308 barrel and bolt then just ream the chamber to '06. I think that would work, but you would have to contact RND to verify. |

This AR-15 Clone for the 30.06 has a much larger reciever than a normal AR-15, at the moment I can't post Pictures of My Rifle But I can post a link to GunBrokes showing a Similar Rifle
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=139794521 It is a Brute, it is Heavy! But it does Shoot M2 Spec 30.06 Ammo. When I was e mailing the Guys at Cobb, They recommeded M2 Spec ammo for use in the MCR-300. My Rifle does like Black hills gold 168 grain Amax, also -72 Match ammo, But it also does Quite well with the HXP M2 loaded Greek that CMP sells, and also Lake City M2 Ball. Both Hornady and Federal have a commercial loading for the M1 Garand ( this is an M2 Spec Ammo) and If conditions were Right( Where I did not have to walk too far to a Place where I knew where the Game Had to cross a field) I think I would use this rifle to do some Hunting. It does have a 24 inch Barrel on it!! and Again it is not a light weight Rifle! Think 1918 Browning Automatic Rifle for size and Weight Comparison. |
