.308 necked out to a .338
looks like it has good terminal ballistics too. Any news of whether or not barrel makers going to be making .338 Federal barrels for AR10s and HK91 clones? Looks like an easy way to turn a .308 rifle into a big game gun or one hell of a tactical rifle.

i think it's a joint effort between federal and sako...so im guessing sako will have a couple chambered for that in short time. It's really new though...maybe a few others will join in to get the ball rolling.

I hope so, it looks like it gives hot loaded .30-06 performance in a .308 sized package. I wouldn't mind an AR10 or HK91 clone in this caliber. Not at all

You should take a look at the new 325 WSM Round. Actual case diameter is .323 (8mm) and is near the top of every ballistic coefficent, energy delivery, expansion catergory out there. I just read a good article on it in the new field & stream

I've got that article too. It's neat but I've never been too crazy about the short-fat magnums. To me they seem "novel", even though they clearly aren't. I guess I'm just a traditionalist: when I think magnum, I think large, long, belted case packed full of the best powder on the market. They don't make any semi autos in .325 WSM do they?
This .338 Federal caught my eye because its seems so versatile. Countless .308 rifles can be underpowered to a .243 with the swap of a barrel (if you really wanted to, I'm sure Police might have a need for it though, more power than a .223 without the overpenetration issues of a .308), so it seems even better to turn your .308 battle rifle into a .338 jackhammer with a barrel swap. I wonder what it'd run to have a custom made, 24" .338 Federal barrel made for a PTR-91...
